As part of this project I've been talking to people about trees. This past weekend the Birdsalls had a sledding party at their families farm house. There are two beautiful maple trees in the front yard that stand out. There used to be four trees. There is some concern that they are getting old, and may fall on the house. The little saplings that were planted all those years ago seemed so far from the house, but as they grew it became clear that they were planted too close. The family has planted a third tree to replace one of the two that are no longer there. They were sure to plant it further from the house.
For me the course bark of these trees make them very interesting.
What/Where are your favorite trees?
Hi Steve,
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to tell you about 2 trees. There's a beautiful, giant sycamore at the southeast corner of Yates and Cayuga. The bark on its branches is really beautiful when the sun's out and the leaves are down. It might be hard to get a nice photo in this urban environment though.
While cross-country skiing east of the Cornell golf course, I came upon a single tree with a nice shape, on its own out in a field. It's hard to describe exactly where it is, but it's pretty near the horse barns. It has a swing, a birdhouse, and a sign saying "Piglet's Corner"!

Maria,
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'll look for the Sycamore tree. They are great trees.
The second tree that you mentioned is the first tree that I photographed. I plan on taking more photos of that one. It's probably my most favorite trees at this point. It's amazing how many times that people like the same trees.
